I majored in it at University, rose the ranks at American Express and then at an accounting outsourcing company whose main clientele included major Western companies. Through dedication and technical knowledge, I became a Finance Director and was put on the Board of the company.
My journey led me to the United States where I earned a Master of Science in Accounting. Already proficient in US-GAAP after 20 years of working for Western clients while in Russia, I further honed my skills with four years of dedicated work in the complex landscape of US accounting and taxation.
But why do I love accounting? Order. Details. Thoroughness. These qualities sing to me. They also define a good accountant. I delight when the month’s hundreds (thousands!) of transactions are properly filed, balanced, and reconciled; when crisp spreadsheets and insightful statements are provided to the client; when I can be a part of my client’s business, the extension of their own passion. This is satisfying to me.
